Quality in Construction Awards

Rehabilitation of Streets, Unit 10

• Jas. W. Glover won an award for the rehabilitation of streets in the Saint Louis Heights area of Honolulu and the complete milling and overlay of St. Louis Drive. Challenges included the highly sloped road, narrow residential streets and poor line-of-site visibility that could impair the safety of workers and motorists. Crews had to make changes to the normal roller-patterns and use additional equipment for paving to produce a smooth, high-quality pavement on schedule and meeting all specifications.

Rehabilitation of Streets, Unit 32

• Also winning an award was the project, rehabilitation of streets in Honolulu’s downtown, including a complete milling and overlay of Queen Street in a heavily commercialized area. All work took place at night, and certain tasks such as jackhammering and cold planing were limited to certain hours. Some of the residential streets that were reconstructed were high traffic, narrow roads, which made paving operations difficult. Despite the myriad challenges, Jas. W. Glover Ltd. produced high-quality HMA pavements.

Farrington Highway Safety Improvements

• The widening, overlay and improvements to safety to Farrington Highway near Honolulu also received the Quality in Construction award. Jas. W. Glover Ltd. was limited to just six hours each day for lane closures on this heavily traveled thoroughfare. The finished road was completed on time and met all specifications, giving taxpayers a project that enhanced the infrastructure and made travel safer.
